ABOUT OMAR RASHAN

I make work that gives people somewhere to feel.

Omar Rashan is a neuro artist whose layered, tactile paintings connect memory, culture, and emotion—inviting collectors to live with work that continues to reveal itself over time.

Raised within a rich field of African and Asiatic visual traditions, Omar learned to read texture as more than surface. Pattern can carry ancestry. Color can hold a mood. A face can open a conversation between generations. Those ideas still guide a practice grounded in storytelling and shaped by a deep love for how art moves through personal and community life.

His work sits at the intersection of portraiture, abstraction, and immersive experience. Each piece is built to do more than complete a wall: it can become an emotional landmark in a home—a place to return to, notice differently, and share with others.

THE COLLECTOR'S EXPERIENCE

The work is finished in the studio, but its meaning keeps growing wherever it lives.

A LIVING PRACTICE

Texture, neuroscience, and cultural memory

Omar approaches texture as a kind of visual rhythm: something the eye can almost touch. Repetition, contrast, familiar symbols, and unexpected materials encourage the brain to slow down and look again. That returning attention is central to his idea of neuro art—work designed to activate curiosity, recognition, and feeling rather than offer a single fixed answer.

Omar Rashan · Neuro Artist

The work begins with attention.

I create tactile, story-rich works that move between painting, memory, and augmented reality—inviting people to slow down, feel more deeply, and discover another way into the image.

The artist

Making room for memory, presence, and possibility.

Indianapolis-based. Community-rooted. Working across fine art, public art, design, and immersive technology.

Omar Rashan makes art for the moment when looking becomes feeling. Across mixed-media painting, tactile surfaces, public art, and augmented reality, he creates images that reward pause. Color draws the viewer closer. Texture slows the gaze. Story and technology open a second doorway.

His visual language is shaped by the cultural environments that raised him, a deep study of African and Asiatic art, and more than two decades working across visual design, community art, and creative technology. Pattern, symbol, surface, and rhythm are not decoration in his practice; they are carriers of memory—ways of connecting personal experience to histories larger than the individual.

“I want the work to meet people where they are—and leave them more present than it found them.”

As a Neuro Artist, Rashan considers what an artwork can activate in everyday life. A piece living in a home can become more than an object: it can be a reminder to return, remember, imagine, or breathe. His augmented-reality layers are not added as novelty. They extend the emotional life of the work, allowing a collector to encounter the piece again and discover something that was waiting beneath the surface.

That same philosophy moves through his community practice. Rashan is a visual artist, curator, teaching artist, designer, and creative technologist whose projects bridge generations, disciplines, and ways of experiencing art. His work has appeared in galleries, public spaces, educational environments, and large-scale cultural moments throughout Indianapolis and beyond. In 2026, both works from his Fishing for Ideas series were acquired during BUTTER Collector Preview Night—before the public opening.
